Premium Rate Structure
* The state budget has not increased University funding for the employer portion of medical premiums. Under a progressive medical premium rate structure (based upon full-time salary rates), UC will continue to pay the greater portion of employee monthly medical premiums. However, UC will provide a larger monthly medical plan contribution for those earning less. This structure is designed to offset increased medical plan premiums; uniform premium increases would result in a disproportionate burden for those who are lower paid.
* The structure has four premium rate levels based on full-time annual salary.
* The impact of premium costs on take-home pay for all levels is mitigated by the Tax-Savings on Insurance Premiums (TIP) provisions.

Senior Management Life - provides eligible members of the Senior Management Group with life insurance.  The coverage amount is two times annual salary (up to a maximum of $800,000) and is in addition to Basic Life Insurance.  Enrollment is automatic (although you may decline coverage) and UC pays 100% of the premium.  However, under the Internal Revenue Code, the value of the employer-paid life insurance in excess of $50,000 is taxable income and reported on your annual Form W-2.

Supplemental Life - provides additional life insurance coverage for you at group rates.  If enrolled, we show the amount of coverage and how much you pay monthly for this plan.

Tax Savings on Insurance Premiums (TIP) - allows you to pay your eligible health plan employee premiums (if any) on a pretax, salary reduction basis.  If you have an enrolled same-gender domestic partner or the domestic partner's children or grandchildren who are not your tax dependents, you may not pay their health plan premiums through TIP.  Enrollment in TIP is automatic.

Vision - if enrolled, we show your coverage level and how much UC pays monthly for this plan.

Voluntary Disability - provides extended coverage for work-related and nonwork-related disabilities due to injuries, illness, or pregnancy. If enrolled, we show which plan(s) you are enrolled in (Short-Term, Long-Term, or both), and how much you pay monthly for these plan(s).

- Your family members currently enrolled in medical, dental, vision and legal are also listed.

Note that you may be eligible to continue your UC-sponsored medical, dental and legal plans if you elect UCRP monthly retirement income.  If you elect a lump sum cashout, you are NOT eligible to continue retiree medical, dental, and legal benefits.
